Turkey prevents NATO from playing its role in de-escalation of tension in Nagorno-Karabakh, an undisclosed high-ranking European diplomat announced Monday, The Guardian reports.

According to this diplomat, the Western military alliance can play a more active role due to the impact on the humanitarian situation and Euro-Atlantic security.

But NATO is "paralyzed" when it comes to Nagorno-Karabakh because of member state Turkey, which supports Azerbaijan.

When asked whether NATO or European governments have any leverage to have some bearing on the ongoing crisis, another senior European diplomat said with a smile: "Actually, no."
