
At the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on September 27, the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 19 against Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed. Stated in a statement posted on the Facebook page of "Armenia in CE."
Statements were made by 30 CE member states, as well as EU and US delegations.
The inadmissibility of the use of force by Azerbaijan, the necessity for international actors to enter Nagorno-Karabakh, ensuring human rights and security of Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh were emphasized.
Ambassador Khachatryan presented the disastrous consequences of Azerbaijan's military action in Nagorno-Karabakh, which has led to the displacement of some 50,000 residents so far. The Ambassador warned that Baku's goal is to complete the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The RA Permanent Representative stressed that Azerbaijan is obliged to implement the interim measures of the ECHR, applied on September 22 against Baku.
The Ambassador noted that the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh is entitled to fully exercise all rights and freedoms enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights. Their rights and security should be duly taken into account and guaranteed at the international level.
Khachatryan said the Committee of Ministers should seriously study the fulfillment of the commitments undertaken by Azerbaijan and consider the possibility of suspending its membership in the structure.
