Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan presented issues related to the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh to Ambassador Vasilis Maragos, head of the European Union delegation in Armenia.

At a meeting held on Thursday, Anahit Manasyan referred to the issues raised during the fact-finding activities carried out by her personally and the staff in the centers implementing primary needs assessment.

The Defender specially emphasized the necessity of properly guaranteeing the rights of forcibly displaced persons in the Republic of Armenia. Anahit Manasyan also presented the serious humanitarian problems caused by the Azerbaijani aggression and the violations of fundamental human rights.

She also talked about the abduction of civilians by Azerbaijan, the torture of Armenian prisoners of war, other forms of inhumane and ill-treatment and other cases.

In his turn, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of the activities of the Ombudsman institution and its role in strengthening the proper system of human rights protection.
