
Speaker Alen Simonyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Friday met with chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine, in Dublin, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
At the meeting, the speaker of the Armenian parliament presented the details of the events preceding the forced deportation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh—listing the security issues and the consequences of the large-scale attack by the Azerbaijani armed forces. In turn, his Ukrainian counterpart highlighted the importance of the bilateral meeting, and expressed his willingness to work together on multilateral platforms as well.
Prospects for the development of parliamentary ties between Armenia and Ukraine were discussed, too. In this connection, both sides emphasized the role of parliaments in international relations, and stressed the broad possibilities of parliamentary diplomacy.
Also, the parties considered the urgency of establishing peace and resolving security issues in the region as a priority.
