On September 28, Armenia initiated legal proceedings against Azerbaijan in the International Court of Justice, alleging violations of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination against the Armenian populace residing in Nagorno-Karabakh. This legal action was officially announced through a press release from the court on Friday.
In its statement, the court revealed that the Republic of Armenia, invoking Article 41 of the statute and Article 73 of the Rules of Court, submitted a request for provisional measures to safeguard and protect the rights enshrined in the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Yerevan's plea to the UN court seeks confirmation of Azerbaijan's commitment to refraining from engaging in any actions, either direct or indirect, aimed at the forced removal of the remaining ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh.
