YEREVAN. – Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has the modern type of VVER-440 reactor, which can carefully stand an earthquake of 9 points, Armenian Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural resources Areg Galsyan said on Wednesday.

“What occurred in Turkey and felt in Armenia is not the earthquake to worry about. The NPP worked even during the Spitak earthquake in Armenia and had no deviations from its regime,” Galstyan said.

The NPP seismicity caused not only the new construction of VVER 440-230 project but also radical changes of the station as a whole. The reactor, as a result, received a new label V-270.

Yerevan currently hosts meeting of the working groups of the CIS countries on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
