Delighted to welcome a major break through in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations as they issue a joint statement. Welcome in particular release of detainees and unprecedented opening in political dialogue. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, wrote on his microblog on X.
“Establishing and deepening bilateral dialogue between sides has been a key objective of the EU-led Brussels process: today’s progress is a key step.
I now encourage the leaders to finalise the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal ASAP,” he wrote.
According to a joint statement by the Office of the Armenian Prime Minister and the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, the negotiations resulted in an agreement to take tangible steps to build confidence between the two states.
According to the statement, Azerbaijan releases 32 Armenian servicemen. Armenia, in turn, releases two Azerbaijani servicemen.
