YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia on Thursday approved the plan for constructing an international logistics center and transportation infrastructures nearby Zvartnots International Airport. This plan is a component for the creation of a free trade zone, and it envisions constructing a new motorway and railway toward the Airport.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communication, there is a need to improve the Airport’s link to the capital Yerevan and to other large cities of Armenia.

Instead of the current 1.6 million, 3 million passengers are expected to be served annually once the Airport’s new terminal is built.

The planned railway system will enable to establish a link between the Airport’s passenger terminal and Charbakh Station of Yerevan’s subway system while the cargo complex will connect, via express train, to Karmir Blur Station.

The logistics center is expected to be built in three years and its construction will cost around 25 million Euros, which will be jointly covered by the state and the private sector.
