Azerbaijan continues to destroy monuments in Stepanakert, reports the Artsakh Cultural Ombudsman.

"Another target of Azerbaijani vandalism was the monument to the great Armenian writer, and educator Khachatur Abovyan. The monument was located in the yard of the school named after the writer. All this proves once again that the cultural heritage of the whole of Artsakh is under threat.

According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Time of Armed Conflict, all acts of vandalism, theft, robbery, appropriation, enmity and revenge against cultural heritage are prohibited. The First Hague Protocol of 1954 prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual property in occupied territories," the report said.
