Bagrat Archbishop Galstanyan, the head of the Tavush Diocese, said at a rally on Republic Square, that he had asked His Holiness Catholicos Karekin II to suspend his 30-year spiritual service so that he could take up a political role as necessary.

“I honestly don't even know what to say,” he said after a speaker suggested that the best candidate for the prime minister from the Movement for Tavush is Bagrat Archbishop himself.

“I didn't have, I don't have the expectation of that position … In my life, I have not avoided any responsibility, in case of mistakes, I have accepted, reflected, and tried to correct,” he added.

«In this sense, keeping in mind the expectation of wide circles ... regarding being a candidate for the prime minister, as a result of the discussions with my spiritual brothers under the chairmanship of His Holiness the Catholicos, we have reflected that I cannot combine being a candidate for the prime minister with my spiritual circumstances.

For this reason, presenting the situation to His Holiness the Catholicos and my spiritual brothers, I asked them to suspend this 30-year spiritual service, and to assume and bear my personal responsibility for this whole process.

This is a personal decision, taking into account all the sacrifice, expectation that I am ready to put on the altar of my sacred motherland, the state," he said.
