Israeli army bombings and shelling have destroyed more than 70 percent of buildings in Rafah city, which is located in the southern Gaza Strip—the Palestinian enclave—near the border with Egypt, Rafah Mayor Ahmed Al-Sufi said, reports Iran's Tasnim News Agency.

"The occupiers [i.e. the Israeli armed forces] are systematically destroying Rafah and the refugee camps located there, and the latest example is the completely destroyed Al-Saudi region," Sufi said.

The mayor noted that more than 70 percent of Rafah and its infrastructure were destroyed due to heavy shelling.
