About 20 dead bodies were found after a fire in a lithium battery manufacturing plant south of Seoul, the capital of South Korea, emergency services said, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Foreigners, including Chinese citizens, are believed to be among the casualties.

The blaze started at lithium battery maker Aricell's plant in Hwaseong, 45 kilometers south of Seoul, at around 10:30am,  the firemen extinguished the fire at around 3:10pm, and started searching inside the plant.

Experts noted that during the fire, the explosions of lithium batteries led to the spread of fire, which made it difficult for the emergency services to work and hindered the search for workers.

There were about 35 thousand lithium batteries in the plant.
