Greece considers the threats of the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement against Cyprus unacceptable, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said during the Luxembourg meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Greece stands with Cyprus. Threatening the existence and sovereignty of an EU member state is an unacceptable act, Gerapetritis told reporters.

On June 19, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah issued a video message in which he made a reference to reports that Israel was allegedly trying to gain access to Cyprus’ airbases. He warned that this move could have negative consequences for Cyprus, the latter will become a partner in military operations, and therefore the Mediterranean facilities will become military targets for Hezbollah.
