European Union (EU) leaders have agreed that Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas shall lead the European diplomacy, and former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa shall head the European Council, reports dpa news agency.

The agreement also provides that the liberal leader of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas, will receive the position of the EU's high representative for foreign affairs.

And the former Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, will be elected Chairman of the Council of Heads of State and Government for the next 2.5 years.

Earlier, dpa reported that the EU countries agreed on the candidacy of Ursula von der Leyen, the current President of the European Commission, for a second term.
