The Lugar Laboratory, located on the outskirts of the capital Tbilisi, will continue to work as normal, despite the suspension of US funding to the Georgian government. This was announced by the deputy speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Nino Tsilosani, in an interview to Imedi television of the country.

Georgian media on Sunday reported that the termination of US funding of more than $95 million will affect the Lugar Laboratory as well.

"There is some information that this suspended amount will no longer fund certain research in Lugar Laboratory. We must tell the public that the Lugar Laboratory will, of course, work properly and fulfill its function," Tsilosani said.

According to her, however, a question arises again: if the American assistance was without an interest, why was it stopped?

The Lugar lab has not lost its authority and has not changed its goals, the deputy speaker of the Georgian parliament is sure.
