Outgoing US President Joe Biden confused the date of his first summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to new Democratic Party members of Congress at the White House on Sunday night, Biden also claimed to have known the Russian president for 47 years.

The outgoing head of the American administration, among other issues, spoke on the situation in the international arena.

"I’ve known Vladimir Putin for 47 years," said Biden.

"I remember meeting him between the time we were elected and before we were sworn in. Or right after. No, I’m sorry, before that. No, that’s right; right after taking office in early February" continued Biden, whose inauguration was held on January 20, 2021.

According to the outgoing US president, he wanted to talk about arms control and resuming the dialogue on nuclear weapons, while the Russian leader allegedly started talking about how Russia has changed and so on.

As two heads of state, Putin and Biden spoke in person on February 12, 2022, by phone, and before that—in late 2021. Before that, they held negotiations through videoconference. The only face-to-face meeting between Putin and Biden as leaders took place in Geneva, Switzerland in June 2021.
