In 2024, Armenia received $110 million instead of the total $250 million provided for in the grant agreement with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which was intended to develop cooperation with the US. This was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia in response to a written request from Sputnik Armenia.

It is about the document signed in September 2024 between Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and John Allelo, USAID/Armenia Mission Director, and this document amended the grant agreement aimed at developing cooperation between Armenia and the US.

As a result, the threshold for the amount provided for by the USAID in this agreement almost doubled, from $120 million to $250 million, and the domains of joint programs were expanded.

The Armenian MFA noted that all foreign assistance programs funded by the US Department of State and USAID have been frozen, and the department no longer has any joint projects with the agency.

“As of 2024, $110 million of the $250 million has been allocated, of which about $49 million has been directed to promoting the Democratic Transition,” the Armenia MFA explained.

Within the framework of this initiative, five programs have been implemented in Armenia: rule of law and human rights ($6.6 million), good governance ($18.9 million), political competition and consensus building ($8 million), civil society and media ($13.6 million), and humanitarian assistance ($1 million).

About $60 million has been distributed among the programs within the framework of improving economic security of Armenia. Thus, about $29.8 million was earmarked to increasing private sector productivity, about $3.2 million to workforce development, about $25.8 million to energy services, and $1 million to humanitarian assistance.
