The Armenian government on Thursday adopted a decision, among its unreported matters in its Cabinet meeting, according to which it will make its Margara checkpoint on the border with Turkey operational from March 21 to 31 in order to send humanitarian cargo to Syria through Turkish territory.

"As a result of working meetings between representatives of the relevant departments of the Republic of Armenia and the Syrian Arab Republic, an agreement has been reached to also discuss the matter of Armenia's provision of humanitarian assistance to Syria.

The adoption of this draft decision is conditioned by the need to transport the cargo intended for humanitarian aid to be sent to the Syrian Arab Republic on behalf of the Republic of Armenia via Turkey, via land route," the aforesaid decision reads.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government has renovated the Margara checkpoint as part of its policy of normalizing relations with Turkey, and in the hope that the agreement reached with Turkey to open their land border to third-country nationals and holders of diplomatic passports will one day be implemented.
