“We are proud to announce that our countries have completed negotiations on an agreement between the governments of Armenia and the United States on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said today, February 9, during a statement in Yerevan with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“Once it is fully approved, this will pave the way for American and Armenian companies to sign agreements on civil nuclear projects. This means up to $5 billion in initial U.S. exports, plus an additional $4 billion in long-term support through fuel and maintenance contracts. This is a classic win-win deal for both Armenia and the United States. It means stronger energy security for my country, and I also believe it means stronger energy security for Armenia, and it will also create many new jobs in the U.S. This means small modular reactors — American technologies will come to this country. Again, this is one of the few countries where we have enough confidence to invest at this level and to send this kind of technology, and this is happening thanks to the Prime Minister’s leadership,” he added.

Earlier, NEWS.am reported that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance arrived in Armenia on February 9 for an official visit with his wife, Usha Vance. At Zvartnots Airport, they were welcomed by the President of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan, and Armenia’s Ambassador to the U.S., Narek Mkrtchyan.

The American delegation also includes Jacob Helberg, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs. Upon arriving in Armenia, he posted: “Next stop — Yerevan, Armenia.”
