YEREVAN.- Europe should reconsider its approaches regarding the Armenian Genocide and penalizing its denial, said the first Speaker of Slovakia’s National Council Frantisek Miklosko.

In 20th century Europe witnessed several genocides but the first was the Armenian Genocide, he told journalists in Yerevan.

“Unfortunately, Europe has not realized that the Armenian Genocide was a background for further crimes,” he said. Miklosko stressed that Slovakia’s law envisages imprisonment for Armenian Genocide denial.

Earlier this year the French Senate adopted a bill criminalizing denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide. However, a group of French Senators appealed the measure in the Constitutional Council.
