The US needs a corridor through Armenia to transport key minerals from Central Asia and oversee Iran, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said in an interview with TASS. “For Washington, the ‘Trump Route’ is an international transport corridor that ensures the export of key minerals from Central Asia to the US, as well as the overseeing of Iran’s northern border,” Overchuk noted.

“There are many interests associated with this route. Everyone even calls it by different names,” the Russian deputy premier added. “From Baku’s point of view, the ‘Zangezur corridor’ is important for restoring communication between the two parts of the country, opening a direct connection with Turkey, and developing Azerbaijan as a Eurasian transport and logistics crossroads.”
