YEREVAN. – Haykakan Zhamanak daily interviewed Armenian parliamentary opposition Heritage Party’s leader Raffi Hovannisian and asked whether he will be nominated with the majority election system in the upcoming parliamentary elections. And Hovannisian responded:

There is no decision. We will do everything to resolve the proportional [election system] matter, even by way of a special discussion at the National Assembly, because it is in the national interests. We have nothing against the majority [system]. I was born in a country [United States] where it is the majority system. But here [in Armenia] the majority [system] is a secret code for a feudal, enslaving system, and we must reject that identification.

That is, if you cannot achieve a result, you, or your other fellow Party members, could be nominated with the majority [election system]?

Nothing can be ruled out in life, but it is preferable that we do not reach that decision.
