YEREVAN. – Armenia’s police is not authorized to interfere in the administrative acts approved by Yerevan City mayor, including construction permission, the statement released by police reads in connection to the Mashtots Park issue.

“In connection to the activities and statements by the environmentalists and NGOs regarding the construction in the Park, Armenia’s police states the following: Armenia’s police is not authorized to interfere in the administrative acts approved by mayor, including construction permission. Hence, police has to secure the construction works as well as maintenance of public order in and nearby the park. In the meantime, police considers more dangerous challenges of demonstrators, which claim to disobey police orders.

Paying importance to raising awareness and considering various public viewpoints, police express readiness to hold round table discussions with all interested NGOs on legal issues of police activities. All those interested are invited to register by Feb. 27,” the statement reads.
