YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan declines from regional cooperation within Eastern Partnership project, Armenian ruling coalition member Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan said on Wednesday at the session of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society held in Yerevan.

“We offered Azerbaijan for several times to cooperate within the framework of the project, however, each time it declined,” MP said.

In response, Azerbaijani MP Azay Guliyev expressed his viewpoint on the issue.

“Regional cooperation is very important for Azerbaijan. But when we speak on cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan we come across the serious challenge of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We are not against the cooperation. Meantime we are seriously concerned over the conflict settlement. If it is settled, I see serious opportunities of cooperation,” Guliyev said.

Zohrabyan responded to the statement with sharp criticism.

“I hoped the stage would not become a rhetoric arena. Azerbaijani MPs use any international stage to discredit Armenia and international community has already tired of it,” she stated.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MPs Hovhannes Sahakyan and Artak Zakaryan called on to accept the things as they are.

It is hardly worth discussing issues that lie beyond the powers of the Committee.
