The USA and Russia compete for the South Caucasus which puts Armenia in an uncertain position, Mirgasem Momeni, Director of the ‘New Concept’ Iran’s Strategic Center, board member of Armenia – Iran association, international relations expert, told the Iranian News agency, stressing that Moscow considers Armenia as it base in the South Caucasus, and the Washington tries to turn Armenia into a pro – Western country.

Talking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the director of the New Concept center pointed out that the conflict benefits the West.

According to him, conflicts provide a ground for the US presence in the region. As long as there is Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the presence of the US is guaranteed.

“If the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan were to lead direct negotiations they would be more effective than now when the negotiation process is followed by the USA and Europe,” expert said.
