The New York Times published an article ‘A frozen conflict that could boil over again’ by the Director of the South Caucasus Project for the International Crisis Group Lawrence Scott Sheets.

The author in particular notes that maintaining the status quo is not an option.

The conflicting sides may reach compromises and thus reach peace only through increased international pressure. Otherwise, another round of more intense violence will erupt, including those states with greater role in the region, Voice of Armenia quotes Sheets.

“World leaders need to think about that threat, and the refugee flows, disrupted energy supplies and destruction and death such renewed warfare could cause,” Lawrence Scott Sheets stressed.
