MOSCOW. – Russia actively participates in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

An important stage in the conflict was the 2008 Moscow Declaration, which is the only document on Karabakh signed both by the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents. The document fixes clearly the sides’ intentions to ensure stability and security in the region through political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on principles and standards of international law.

However, the key issue still remains assisting the sides in their work on the Basic Principles of the settlement, coordinated by the other two Co-Chairs (U.S. and France) as well.

“I hope the peace process will register success this year, if the conflicting sides show constructive approach,” Popov concluded.
