YEREVAN.- U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern commented on purchase of weapon by Azerbaijan.

Asked by Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent to comment on U.S. position, as a Co-Chairing state of the Minsk Group, on Azerbaijan’s purchase of weapons, Heffern recalled that presidents of the co-chairing states Obama, Sarkozy and Medvedev have issued a number of statements on the issue, one of the last was issued in Deauville.

He stressed that in this statement the presidents called on the sides to display restraint on their statements, purchase of weapons, and maintain ceasefire regime. The main message was to prepare their populations for peace, not war, he stressed.

Heffern added that the OSCE Minsk Group’s calls to the sides will remain the same until the settlement of the conflict is reached.
