YEREVAN. – A consultation was convened at Armenia’s Police Department, and it took somewhat of a non-traditional course, Zhoghovurd daily writes, referring to its sources.

“[During the consultation] Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan announced that [President] Serzh Sargsyan has given clear instructions to do everything in order hold the national elections smoothly and without an incident. ‘We are the police of everyone. If there is an unlawful activity, it will be punished immediately, no matter who has carried it out,’ Gasparyan said, and added that knowledgeable work is the main weapon of the police.

[Also,] Special police telephone numbers will be created and police rapid reaction teams will be set up prior to the [National Assembly] NA elections. Zhoghovurd also ascertained that Gasparyan explained to all police commanders, [and] deputy commanders that if any police officer exceeds his powers and deals with political matters, he will be severely punished,” Zhoghovurd writes.
