YEREVAN. – The Vardanyan family, who owns the Grand Tobacco Company, has privatized Armenia’s Electoral District No. 40, Hayatsk daily writes.

‘“They have owned it, together with their female employees.’ This is how Noyemberyan [city] residents characterize the father and son Vardanyan’s ‘clever move.’ They [the residents] find that they [the Vardanyan] have offended them by registering unfamiliar female [MP] candidates.

[And] On the 22nd of the month, [one of the son’s] Mikayel Vardanyan was in Noyemberyan, until 6 p.m., to leave the impression that he will nominate. And now there are rumors that they will compel the two registered local female candidates to leave the ‘competition’ in a couple of days.

When this small news was ready for making public, they called from Noyemberyan and confirmed that one of the locals has already withdrawn her candidacy,” Hayatsk writes.
