YEREVAN. – Election processes may have direct influence on the economy of Armenia.

It can be expressed in trade turnover. As compared to the latest parliamentary elections in 2007, the retail turnover had increased by 20% or made AMD 11 billion (in April, as compared to March), while the trade turnover was decreased in May. Hence, the 11 billion is the indirect proof of electoral bribes.

According to own estimations, parties and political figures on majoritarian system, will spend over $70-80 million, which will further promote to the Armenian dram.

Besides direct influences, there are also indirect ones. Active engagement of the businessmen into election processes brings forward a freezing effect of short-term investment programs. Also, the government may make populist steps, which can contain elements of macro-economic destabilization.
