All through this month the Armenian community of the Netherlands and a variety of social and political organizations in the country will hold events devoted to the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

On April 13, a meeting will be held with Dutch-Turkish scholar, NIOD Institute lecturer Dr. Ugur Umit Ungor, who will deliver a lecture titled “The Armenian Genocide and Establishment of Modern-Day Turkey.”

In the densely-Armenian-populated city of Almelo, an exhibition will open on the Dutch press publications concerning the Armenian massacres and deportations in the Ottoman Empire at the turn of the 20th century.

On April 24, the anniversary of the Genocide, the visitors will place flowers and wreathes before the Armenian Genocide Memorial at the De Boskamp Cemetery in Assen. On that day commemorations will also be held in other heavily-Armenian-populated areas in the Netherlands.

The Genocide observation events will come to a close in Eindhoven, where filmmaker Tigran Khzmalyan’s “Unpunished Crime”—which includes German human rights activist Armin Wegner’s photographs of the Armenian Genocide—will be screened.

This event will conclude with a live concert.
