Specialists from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) have invented a new microchip that provides up to 2Gbps wireless data transfers.

The new device overpasses for 1000 times the speed of Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR interface, NEWSru.com reports. For example, transfer of the contents of a double-layer DVD disc takes about 30 seconds and requires just the 60GHz spectrum.

The new microchip is called Virtus and requires minimum energy supply. It not only copies music and videos to and from phones, but also is used for making streaming content from mobile devices to TVs and other equipment, iXBT.com reports.

The Virtus features an antenna, transceiver, designed by NTU, and the signal processor designed by I2R experts.
