The recent incidents on Armenian-Azerbaijani line of the contact will not engage the already “frozen” Nagorno-Karabakh conflict into war, expert Thomas de Waal said in an interview with Sunday’s Zaman.

“I don’t see this recent border skirmish as the start of a return to the Nagorno-Karabakh war,” de Waal said adding it is an attempt from both sides to attract the attention of the international community to the conflict.

However, the expert believes that the situation is not so bad. The long-term tendency is very negative. It is important to strengthen diplomacy and to prevent a new war in a few years’ timeframe, he concluded.
