The color of the plate directly influences the amount of food that is consumed: if the color of the plate is same as the color of the food, the person consumes 20 percent more food.

As MEDdaily.ru reports linking at The Telegraph, scientists at Cornell University conducted a test with volunteers who were given pasta on white and red plates. In one case tomato sauce was used, in the other white cream sauce.

When the pasta with tomato sauce was given on red plates and when the pasta with white cream sauce was served on white plates, the volunteers consumed 17-22 percent more pasta than the group that was served tomato sauce on white plates and white cream sauce on red plates. It came out that the contrast in colors makes allows to better estimate the amount of the portion and eat less.
