STEPANAKERT. – OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier’s upcoming visit to the South Caucasus Region can be explained by the fact that the West’s interest towards the South Caucasus region has grown, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic MP Vahram Atanesyan told Armenian New-NEWS.am.  “Today the tension around Syria continues to grow, the West toughens its disposition against Iran, and on this background Azerbaijan is trying to move the Karabakh conflict into the geopolitical platform and get the support of outer forces,” he mentioned.  According to Atanesyan, in this context the South Caucasus countries have to make a decision.  “The countries of the European-Atlantic Alliance offer one vector to those countries, Russia offers another vector. However there is a small nuance: the West works in all South Caucasus countries equally while Russia does not have diplomatic relations with Georgia and from this point of view Russia loses the battle of effective diplomatic efforts,” Atanesyan mentioned.  As Armenian News-NEWS.am  reported earlier, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier is to visit the South Caucasus region on June 8-12.
