YEREVAN. – At present, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has not received any official information that Syria’s Consul to Armenia has taken the side of Syria’s opposition, MFA Press Secretary Tigran Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

At the same, however, Al Jazeera television disseminated information that Syria’s Consul to Armenia, Mohamed Hossam, has sided with Syria’s opposition.    

To note, the clashes in Syria continue ever since March 2011 and, according to the United Nations reports, 16,000 Syrians have lost their lives as a result of these incidents.

A total of 60-70 thousand Armenians live in Syria, and they comprise 0.5 percent of the country’s population.
