YEREVAN. – The National assembly’s Prosperous Armenia Party MP Samvel Balasanyan is voted in as new Mayor of the City of Gyumri, as a result of Sunday’s local self-government elections in the country.

The Central Electoral Commission’s website has posted the preliminary results, according to which 46,093 of the 125,657 eligible voters cast their ballots in the city.   

As a result, mayoral candidates Andranik Avetisyan, Spartak Petrosyan, Hovsep Simonyan and Samvel Balasanyan received 2,458, 2,130, 10,281 and 27,500 votes in that order. And 3,359 ballots were declared invalid.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a total of 479,625 of the 968,643 eligible voters, or 49.52 percent, cast their ballots during Sunday’s local self-government elections in Armenia. 

These elections were held in the country’s 481 communities, specifically in Ararat, Armavir, Lori, Shirak, and Syunik regions. As a result, community leaders were elected in 379 communities and council of elders’ members were voted for in 454 communities.
