ALEPPO. – Aleppo Armenia Hagop Apkarian was killed recently on the road leading from Beirut, Lebanon, to Latakia resort city in Syria.   

Apkarian was heading to Latakia with a car, but shots were fired in the direction of his vehicle nearby Jableh, Syria, press secretary Jirair Reisian of the National Primacy of Aleppo of the Armenian Apostolic Church told Armenian News-NEWS.am.    

As for the killing of the more than a dozen people that members of Syria’s Jabhat al-Nusra rebel faction had taken hostage earlier, Reisian stated that since the names of the victims are not yet announced, it is not yet clear whether or not there are any Armenians among them.    

To note, in line with the Armenian MFA data, the Armenian by the name of Nazaret Tcharkian, who was kidnapped in Damascus on January 23, has been released.
