YEREVAN. – Azerbaijani side realized that any attempts of escalation in these days would result in tenser situation that will be painful for Azerbaijan's political leadership during the European Games, political analyst Sergey Minasyan believes.

According to him, the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh at the moment is a mere formality.

“But it is the lever to show that there are negotiations and hostilities will not resume. However, all parties try to use this time, the status quo, based on their own interests. Azerbaijan is trying to use it for the purpose of making warlike statements and creating the possibility of renewed hostilities. While the Armenian side's position is different,: the analyst told reporters on Monday.

Nagorno Karabakh, in turn, is trying to use this time for building statehood, and in order to create a situation where the international community and Azerbaijan will be forced to put up with the current political reality.

“And the reality is that unlike Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh authorities have to organize elections at a high level. And it is one of the major arguments of the Armenian side,” Minasyan added.
