The Social-Democratic Hnchakyan Party (SDHP) will vote for the draft constitutional amendments of Armenia.

Chairman of the SDHP Armenia Board, Narek Galstyan, told the above-said to reporters on Saturday.

“The parliamentary system of governance is one step forward, but a political will is needed to reap its fruits,” Galstyan said. “If there is political will, everything will be wonderful, all problems will be solved.”

In his words, even though Armenia needs radical changes, their implementation does not depend on the Constitution, but rather on the political will to make these changes.

Narek Galstyan added that the matter on whether or not the SDHP will collaborate with the “Yes” front for the constitutional amendments will be decided at the end of the party’s tenth congress, which kicked off Saturday in capital city Yerevan.

On October 5, the National Assembly passed, and by a vast majority of votes, the decision on agreeing to hold a referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

And the President has set December 6 as Referendum Day.
