ETCHMIADZIN. – Thousands of faithful have assembled Sunday morning at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, to attend the Divine Liturgy to be offered with participation by Pope Francis.

The altar is prepared, and virtually all the guests have arrived, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from the scene.

Two large screens also have been placed at the Mother See, so that people can follow the Divine Liturgy.

The Pontiff is in Armenia on a three-day visit, and Sunday is the final day of his trip.

After the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Rome plans to head for the Khor Virap monastery, where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 14 years.

Within the framework of his trip to Armenia, Pope Francis visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in capital city Yerevan, offered a Holy Mass in Gyumri, and he and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II presided over an ecumenical ceremony and offered a prayer for peace at Republic Square in Yerevan.
