YEREVAN. - The expedition consisting of Armenian, Italian and German specialists has come across another vishapakar (dragon stone) at the height of 3000 meters of the southern slope of Aragats mountain, in a site called Tirinkatar.

Worker of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, Arsen Bobokhyan, said the aforementioned at a press-conference on Thursday.

In his words, the scientific analysis showed that the vishapakar may date from the end of the third milleniun BC, that is, it is a Bronze Age monument. During the excavation remnants of ancient wheat, barley and possibly grape were found under the vishapakar. These organic remnants still need to be thoroughly examined, the archaeologist said.

Apart from this, the excavations also continued in Margahovit village located between Dilijan and Vanadzor. The studied carried out there during the last five years have showed that Margahovit was a metallurgic center of the Bronze Age period.

According to Arsen Bobokhyan, the site was no ordinary settlement, but one of the ancient metallurgists. A bronze statue of a dog dating from the 3rd millennium BC was found on the excavation site. This is a unique artifact by which the zoologists can get an idea on how the prehistoric dog looked like, the archaeologist concluded.
