A Russian nuclear island has been selected for a new nuclear-power plant (NPP) in Armenia, stated RA Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan.

“As regards turbines, electrical equipment ad control systems, we have started negotiations for their supply with the leading companies, including European ones,” Galstyan said on the margins of the first meeting of the EU-Armenia subcommittee for energy, nuclear security, transport and environment.

On August 20, in Yerevan, an Armenian-Russian agreement on construction of a new NPP was signed following the Armenian-Russian presidential talks. A Russian-Armenian company, Metsamor Inter RAO, was formed to implement the construction project. The company will cover 40% of the project costs, with 60% to be attracted as investments.
