The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled, that the decision of the Swiss authorities to place Muslim girls for swimming lessons with boys, did not violate the religious rights of the school girls, reports BBC.

The ECHR rules, that despite such claims might be considered as an interference with the freedom of religion, they do not cause any serious violation of law. The court verdict states, that the Swiss authorities acted within the framework of the law, with the purpose to protect foreign students from social isolation.

The complaint was submitted to the appeal court by two citizens of Turkish origin, who refused to send their daughters to compulsory swimming lessons. As a result, in 2010 they were fined an amount of about 1.3 thousand euros for violations of parental duties. After that, they had applied to the ECHR.
