YEREVAN. – Traditionally, Armenian culture did not have Old New Year, which is now celebrated on January 13, ethnographer Karine Bazeyan stated at a press conference on Wednesday.

In her words, the custom of celebrating Old New Year had spread among Armenians by the influence of Russian culture.

“January 1 is New Year, January 6—Christmas [for Armenians],” added the ethnographer. “And our people were guided by this precept.”

As per Bazeyan, from the ethnographical, traditional and cultural viewpoint, Old New Year was not a feast for Armenians, until the mid-20th century.
