Italian professional footballer, former world champion, player of Barcelona, Milan and Juventus Gianluca Zambrotta spoke about his plans, the best years of his career and the world’s best player in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent Vera Martirosyan.

You are the manager of India’s Delhi Dynamos. Do you plan to extend the contract? Would you like to work in Europe?

Regarding my future I’m discussing my contract renewal with Delhi Dynamos, we are still negotiating, we are talking about future projects. Then one day I would like to work in Europe as a coach, that’s one of my goal. But now it is important for me to grow as a coach and in India I have a great opportunity to do that. For the future I don’t have a favourite league in which I would like to work. I’m open to many professional experiences in different countries.

You played for different clubs. Which years of your career were most successful?

I think I had several seasons in which I did well. I would say the first years as a professional football player, in the third division, when I was playing for Como and I was very young. I did well when I was in Bari: in that period I had my first call up to the Italian National Team. Then when I played for Juventus, with Marcello Lippi, when we reached the Champions League final against AC Milan in Manchester. And obviously when we won the World Cup in 2006 with the Italian National Team.”

Which was your most important game?

The most important game was the World Cup final in 2006 against France in Berlin, for sure.

Would you change anything in your career if you could turn back the clock?

No, if I could turn back I wouldn’t change anything in my career.

Would you like to play in another period, not the time you used to play?

If I had a chance I wouldn’t play in any football period in particular. I believe that my period was definitely one of the best, in Italy and in the rest of the world, because there were many football champions, many football stars. I’m talking about those years from 1995 to 2012.

Which team has the best chance to win Champions League?

There are many great teams. I would say PSG, Real Madrid and also Barcelona that despite this difficult moment it is still a fantastic team. Then Juventus for sure, which is doing very well in the tournament, Bayern Munich it is also a great team. I think all these teams have good chances to win the Champions League.

Who is the greatest football player of all time?

If I had to choose one player, I would say Leo Messi. I had the possibility to play alongside him in Barcelona, to see him playing every day. So for sure now he is the best in the world.
