President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is in Russia on an official visit, on Wednesday met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two presidents discussed key bilateral cooperation matters and prospects for the development of integration cooperation in the Eurasian region, informed the Kremlin official website.

“We will soon, on April 23, mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations,” said Putin. “Over the course of these years, relations between Russia and Armenia have taken on an allied nature (…). We are actively cooperating in international organizations. (…). Armenia-Russia relations are always built on the basis of deep roots that come from centuries, from the past.”

The Russian president also stressed that this talk is held against the backdrop of the preparations for the parliamentary election to be conducted in Armenia on April 2, and that all this is linked to constitutional reforms in the country.

“I am confident that Armenia, under your leadership, will pass this phase of development,” Putin told, in particular to the President of Armenia.

Sargsyan, for his part, stated that Armenian-Russian relations are constantly getting richer. He added that the high-level bilateral talks enable to highlight and sum up the work that has been done, and point to the main areas of cooperation.

“We mark the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations,” added the Armenian president. “These years became years of close cooperation, and we achieved so sincere allied relations.”
