YEREVAN. – The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has introduced 23 lawsuits against Azerbaijan, in connection with the crimes that were committed during the April war, said Gevorg Kostanyan, the Armenian government representative before the ECtHR, at a press conference on Thursday.

In his words, more than 700 lawsuits were filed against Azerbaijan at the European Court, and a large team of attorneys as well as human rights activists are working on these cases.

Kostanyan added that the government of Armenia is involved in these lawsuits as a third party, and it will submit its respective position.

“Azerbaijan announced about 500 lawsuits,” he noted. “But the fact is that [solely] five [such] lawsuits have yet been put into circulation, of which Armenia is aware. But 23 lawsuits already have been put into circulation against Azerbaijan.”

In early April 2016, Azerbaijan unleashed a large-scale military aggression against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Numerous crimes and human rights violations against civilians and soldiers were committed during this aggression.
