The detachments of armed radical groups are pursuing an offensive to the north of Afrin city in Syrian Aleppo Governorate, a Kurdish source informed RIA Novosti.

''It can be said that the Turkish troops and fighters, whom they supported, went a kilometer deep into the Syrian territory in northern Afrin. The advancement is supported by the Turkish army artillery,'' the source noted.

According to him, the Turkish artillery has been firing the Kurdish settlements in the suburbs of Afrin for no less then six days on end.

Capitalizing on the situation, the fighters of radical group Harakat Ahrar al-Sham are making attempts to seize the strategic heights near the settlements in the suburbs of Afrin.

Afrin, which is mainly settled by Kurds, is located nearby the Syrian-Turkish border, 20 km far from the border Azaz city, which is controlled by the radical groups.
